WEST Park 2nds put in a battling performance to beat Broughton Park 14-3, to deservedly move into the quarter finals of the ‘Raging Bull’ Trophy.

Rucking and scrummaging more aggressively than the home side and tackling their opponents to a standstill.

After an enthralling first 30 minutes, the deadlock was broken as Mike Simpson latched onto a pass intended for outside centre Lee Parry, just inside the 22 and scored a try of jinking beauty, converted by Adam Travers. Minutes later Jerry Dowling squandered a certain score when with the overlap on the left beckoning, he went for glory and was held up.

Tempers flared in the second half as off the ball incidents went unpunished, however Park responded by dominating play. The line-outs were a master-class from Captain Bill Collins; who spoilt Broughton ball and soared to collect all of West Park’s.

After a penalty to Broughton, Park continued to turn the screw, dominating the breakdown, driving over to expose space around the fringes. As the pressure increased the away side saved their best attack until 10 minutes from the end. Richard Twist broke the line and offloaded to MOM Mark Nolan, who zigzagged brilliantly through Broughton’s defence converted again by Travers.

The seconds face New Brighton at Red Rocks on Saturday.
