CONOR Coady’s brace helped make sure Alex Inglethorpe’s career at Liverpool began with a win, as the young Reds beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 in the NextGen series at Langtree Park.
Liverpool went into the game needing a win to keep their qualification hopes alive and they began the better of the two sides as Marc Pelosi and Jordon Ibe both forced good saves from Dortmund goalkeeper Cedric Williams.
Coady grabbed his first of the game after rising best of all to head home a brilliant Brad Smith cross in the 22nd minute.
The St Helens born skipper then doubled Liverpool’s lead from the penalty spot four minutes later after Williams had brought down Krisztian Adorjan.
It could have been three after only half an hour, but Adam Morgan saw his close range effort cleared off the line as Liverpool went in at half-time leading 2-0.
The second half carried on where the first-half left off, with Liverpool in total control and Morgan made it 3-0 after 78 minutes when he rounded the keeper and slotted into an empty net.
Liverpool hit the woodwork twice in the second-half as Dortmund failed to create any clear-cut chances,.
Inglethorpe, the new Reserve Team and NextGen manager, knows a victory against Inter in the next game early in the new year will see his side through.
