PILKINGTON RECS will be aiming to be crowned North West champions for the first time since 1980 when they face Wigan St Cuthberts on Sunday (kick off noon at Stobart Stadium, Widnes).

The St Helens amateurs powered into the North West Men’s League Grand Final with a 45-16 win over Bank Quay Bulls on Thursday night.

It leaves them just two days to recover – but the incentive to finally lift the championship – after finishing runners up in four of the past five winter-based seasons will be huge.

The concept of having a Grand Final to decide the champions is a new one for the premier division clubs, who switched from the winter-based competition to summer earlier this year.

It will be Recs’ final game in the regional division after their application to join the National Conference was accepted.

The Hattons National Conference Grand Final between Wath Brow Hornets v Myton Warriors will follow the North West Final.

Admission is £4 and £1 for concessions.
