Never-say-die spirit wins the day for Yickers
12:49pm Thursday 15th November 2012 in Sport
Haydock 36 Wigan St Patricks A 32.
THIS being Haydock's last league match the coach made a few positional changes and they were given a game against a Wigan side that belied their position on the table.
Haydock’s opener came from a good kick from Josh Jackson which saw winger Ste Galvin catch and go over in the corner.
It became a nip-and-tuck game with further first half Yickers tries coming Dean Dollin and Sean Swift.
The visitors, however, went in ahead by 18-12 at the break.
That deficit was soon expanded before Darryl Rotherham pulled one try back.
The leveller came when Dean Dollin went through a gap and went 90 metres to score a great try, converted by himself to put Haydock on level terms at 24 all before Pats nudged ahead again with a penalty followed by a converted try.
But with six minutes to go, Josh Jackson picked up Pats kick and sped a good 90 metres.
Dean Dollin converted.
In the closing minutes it was all Haydock and Jordan Gibson kicked the ball Dean Dollin followed it and then kicked it himself and the ball bounced kindly for him collected it and went over for his third try Craig Haughey converted.
The St Helens Man of Match went fittingly to Craig Haughey.
