11:08am Thursday 1st November 2012 in Sport
A JON Glover hat-trick and another rock solid defensive display saw Brook through to the second qualifying round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.
Brook took the lead within a minute of the kick off when following a penalty ten metres from the line Glover powered over.
Six minutes later Glover scored a carbon copy try with The Laners having no answer to his bulldozing runs with Lee Marsh adding the extras to give his side a ten point cushion.
A stray pass and one that was adjudged forward denied Brook two further tries but Stephen Parkinson slotted over a penalty goal five minutes before the interval as the Castleford markers were not caught square as Brook were attacking in the shadow of the goal posts.
Right on half time the home side got the try they deserved a super kick into corner from Lee Marsh was anticipated by Parkinson who collected the ball to score. Chris Springford and Mark Spears were both sin-binned as tempers flared as the whistle went for the end of the half.
Five minutes into the second half Lock Lane scored the try they needed to get into the game.
Scott Horner took advantage of a neat offload to find the space to cross the try line with Danny Rowse converting.
Despite their best to breakdown Brook’s defence the National Conference Division One leaders could not find a way through.
Parkinson added his second penalty goal mid way through the half as Brook stretched their lead to 12 points.
Frustration got the better of Lock Lane forward Steve Bolderson who saw yellow with only five minutes remaining.
Brook wrapped up the victory in the last minute. Almost 80 minutes after opening the scoring Jon Glover bustled his way over for his hat trick.
Lee Marsh was selected as the Tisdalls Man of the Match with Jon Glover taking the AB Sundecks Players Man of the Match.
Brook’s reward is a trip to Siddal to play British Police in the Second Qualifying Round.
