Portico extend wins sequence
12:24pm Thursday 25th October 2012 in Sport
Portico Vine 28 Chester Gladiators 22
PORTICO’S 17th win on the bounce puts them in sight of the North West Men’s League Division Five title.
Culcheth Eagles’ shock home defeat to Crosfields means the St Helens side will be crowned champions if they win their remaining two games, starting at home to Hindley on Saturday at 2pm.
Chester pushed Portico to the limit at the weekend though.
Portico fought back from 6-0 behind with tries from Nathan Ashurst, Neil Kearns and Aaron Preston, with Kev Rooney converting all three.
Either side of half time Chester crossed twice to cut the gap to 18-16.
Portico replied through John Simms and Gareth Flynn’s try eventually proved to have taken the game beyond Chester.
