College engineers prove proper friendly for Marjorie

A SQUAD of engineering students has made some special new Friends very happy.

The students from St Helens College decided to donate their prize money to the Helen Marie Friends charity after winning an enterprise competition which saw college students compete to produce products they had to sell at a trade fair at the town centre campus.

The event was sponsored by Gamble Education Trust, with the team making the biggest profit crowned Enterprise winners for 2012. The winners were allowed to keep their profits.

The engineering team made a range of products including plant pot stands, hanging basket brackets, shopping trolley coins and spirit levels. They won the competition, showing a profit of £134. After further fundraising a total of more than £200 was raised.

Helen Marie Friends is a local charity that helps children whose lives are affected by serious illnesses.

It provides specialist equipment and financial help to families.

Jim Clarke, a lecturer in fabrication and welding at St Helens College, said: “By choosing to donate their prize money to the Helen Marie Friends charity it shows how kind and thoughtful the engineering students are.”
