STUDENTS at Rainhill High School have increased their A-level results, with the 2013 contingent achieving record results at the school with 48 per cent at A*-B, 83 per cent A*-C and a 100 per cent pass rate on A- level courses.

Performance in BTEC courses was again outstanding, with more than 69 per cent of students securing Distinction*/Distinction grades.

The Science Academy saw its students secure nine Distinction*’s in Applied Science and excellent performance in A-level biology, chemistry and physics, with many students gaining A*-B.

Other subjects performing particularly well were A-level geography, English literature, economics, mathematics, further mathematics, psychology, textiles, art graphics and theatre studies, with more than 50 per cent of students securing A*-B grades.

John Pout, Rainhill’s head teacher said: “Yet again, students at Rainhill have done brilliantly. This is testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and staff at the school.

“The support from parents has been fantastic and has contributed a great deal to our success.

“The vast majority of our students have a place at a university and on a course of their choice, and another good set of AS results have laid a firm foundation for next year’s A-level results. We are very proud of them all and wish them every success for the future.”

The following is a selection of Rainhill students who have done outstandingly well.

  • Antasia Adam-Smith secured As in English literature, biology and psychology, and will be studying psychology at Manchester University.
  • Meghann Matthews secured As in biology, geography and psychology, and will be studying psychology at Sheffield University.
  • Andrew Foote secured A* in mathematics, As in biology and physics and B in German, and will be studying linguistics and mathematics at York University.
  • Ben Quickfall, who secured A* in mathematics, As in physics, further mathematics and geography, will be studying engineering at Sheffield University after taking a gap year working at Wood Group psn for a year.
  • Michael Schenck, who secured As in English literature, mathematics and theatre studies and a B in geography, will be studying English literature and theatre studies at Leeds University.
