AFTER receiving a record number of sixth rorm applications for classes starting this September, St Helens College is now encouraging school leavers to secure some of the few remaining places available.

A college spokesperson said: “With a new £56 million town centre campus with world class facilities and resources, students can take advantage of a diverse range of vocational courses which could take them onto university or into employment.”

Rainford High student Natalie Birch had always wanted to take to the sky and joined St Helens College from school to help realise her ambition and is now embarking on a career in the aviation industry.

Natalie said: "The training days and airport visits we have been on whilst at College have been fantastic, they provided us with valuable experience and it was great to see how things in the industry work.

“On one of the visits, we had the opportunity to look around the Jet2.com crew room and speak to the Jet2.com employees about working in the industry."

Natalie has gone on to land a job with Jet2.com and took part in a five week training course in Newcastle before joining the team on a summer contract.

Natalie adds: "I am really excited about becoming a member of Jet2.com's cabin crew team and I can't wait to start. I will be based at Manchester Airport during my contract."
