STUDENTS have been enjoying some sparkling visits to a major tourist destination.
“Great school day out” – that’s the verdict from youngsters, when asked about their school visits to The World of Glass.
“The children always have a good time,” says The World of Glass’s education co-ordinator Katherine Barker. “And not just because it’s a chance to escape from the classroom. “They really enjoy getting involved in our activities and workshops. It brings to life what they are studying at school.”
“We get great feedback. ‘It was all brilliant’ one Year 4 pupil said. ‘I couldn’t wait to do the next activity’. And a little seven-year-old said ‘well now we know glass isn’t boring’.
“The activity-rich programme ranges from live glass blowing demonstrations and hands-on workshops to learning about the science of glass and discovering life in Victorian or Roman Britain.
“We have schools coming from all over the north west and as far afield as Cumbria, Yorkshire and Devon – even the Isle of Man.”
By the end of March around 2,800 pupils from 80 schools had taken part, more than in the previous year.
