SEVEN students from Carmel College could be heading for two of the world’s top universities later this year.

After completing the tough application process, they have all received offers for places at Oxbridge colleges for September.

Patrick Kilgallon has been offered a place to study law at Oxford, while Matthew Bellamy, Mathew Bonnon, Lauren Brown, Daniel Lee, Thomas Schmidt and Paul Stanford have all been offered place at Cambridge.

Before being offered the places the students took advantage of their college’s High Achievers programme which offers support for those looking to bag a place at a top university and included a two day visit to both Oxford and Cambridge staying overnight at Magdalene College.

A Carmel spokesman said: “Competition for places at Oxford and Cambridge is incredibly high and just to be offered a place is itself a great achievement.”
