A POLICE officer, who was on duty at the weekend's Saints and Warrington rugby league cup clash, later discovered the paintwork of his family car had been scratched.

The bodywork of the Seat Leon, which has been parked in Gladstone Street - near to Saints' Knowsley Road ground - was left badly damaged.

The officer's furious wife, Marie Taylor, said: "I would rather not give his name, with him being in the police, but I'm so angry about this.

"He had gone in the family car and I can only assume that someone must have seen him get out of it while he was wearing his uniform.

"What he has earned in overtime will now have to be spent on getting the car re-sprayed.

"One thing is for certain, next time he will have to go in the police car!"

Maybe it was an itrate resident who had to park elswhere else for the duration of the match, I am not condoning this damage but maybe it is time for the residents to have match day parking permits as they do in Liverpool in the areas around Anfield & Goodison Park after all we all live in Merseyside so we should have the same benifits.

And the residents of those streets never park anywhere on Merseyside other than outside their own homes. The ground was there long before most of the residents moved in to their homes.

One things for certain, next time he will have to go in the police car!

Just out of curiosity, have you declared to your insurance company your husband was using his own vehicle for work purposes and what the pupose of his work involved that evening. I would'nt like to think your insurance does not cover you for that as it could be breaking the law.

I can asure you that the police station at where the officer is stationed is classed as his place of work, any patrols or transportation to patrol areas in his own vehicle would constitute useing his own vehicle for work purposes.
