PLANS to bring back a show that was last staged nine years ago are in the pipeline - provided there is enough public support.
The Newton Show ran for 37 years until the curtain came down on the event in 1999. Once a popular attraction, it was staged every second week in August on St Aelred's School field, Birley Street.
But support waned and several of the committee members retired, sounding its death knell.
Now former commitee member, John Donlon is keen to bring it back.
A website has been set up dedicated to the old shows, featuring photos and original old programmes. There is also a forum at www.newtontownshow.org to invite suggestions and gauge public opinion about bringing it back.
John said: "When gathering the information for the website I was amazed at all the attractions at the show had - from show queens, half-marathons and vintage cars to a wild west show and even a freefall parachute display!
"I hope that when people visit the site, it will bring back some great memories. I want to see the show back again in 2009 bigger and better than ever, but it all depends on local support."
