Arriva bus driver could not find compassion to stop for me
8:58am Thursday 13th September 2012 in News By Reader letter
I’m afraid I am another disgruntled St Helens resident who must take issue with the service from Arriva buses.
After visiting a friend I was waiting at a bus stop in Haydock for the 4.40pm Garswood bus. It is normal for this be to be somewhat late or, quite often, cancelled, without warning.
So I usually decide to wait and see what is happening on that day. I waited and waited. After twenty minutes I decided that I would simply have to walk, knowing it would take a good hour or so.
No sooner had I gone 20 yards than the bus came into view. I tried running back to the stop and put my hand out thinking the driver would see what had happened and stop. But after glancing in my direction, he carried on without stopping.
Could there not have been some compassion or understanding from the driver? What kind of man allows for an older woman to be left stranded? I do not own a car and I’m not fortunate enough to take taxis everywhere I go. I am dependent on this service.
I know he was late but he should have made time to pick up his waiting passenger.
Linda Tyrer, Garswood
