Has Ed Miliband got his finger on the nation’s pulse?

Has Ed got his finger on the nation’s pulse? Has Ed got his finger on the nation’s pulse?

I’M beginning to think Mr Miliband, Our Ed, doesn’t have his finger on the pulse of the voters he will need one day.

Perhaps a boost in the polls and a special invitation to Paris to parlez vous with the new French president went to his head!

I quote from a newspaper report: “To rapturous applause, he told a meeting of French socialists; ‘I want to say very, very clearly that we consider Britain’s place to be in Europe, and, firmly in Europe.’ Mon Dieu”

Applaud I bet they did!

A British party leader, committed to the unions, just when they thought we were losing faith (they got that bit right!), not exactly a vote catcher lad.

Back home, the majority of us still want out of Brussels, with its ailing Euro and failing economies we are helping to prop up, while still in recession ourselves.

I hope this was just a case of when in Paris, go with the flow, tell them what they want to hear. It works for most politicians.

Well said, Joan. Ed Miliband is an idiot - while part of the last government he was a disaster. He has never had a real job in the real world. His father was a Marxist academic and must be rotating in his grave.

Of course he hasn't got his finger on the nation's pulse! (Well not the part I come from anyway). He's another highly educated academic, bred for a 'career' in politics...just like the majority who enter that role nowadays, regardless of which party they claim to represent. We need a resurgence of true working class representation in politics, and this can only be achieved by ordinary working class people engaging with socialist politics again. The tories must be laughing their starched socks off to see working class people being drawn towards hate-fuelled right-wing politics. Don't they realise they are playing right into the hands of the very elite we, as a united working class, should be fighting against?

Rather disingenuous of you, papyt. You are clearly happy to support the status quo and one of the three main parties, while they have all failed to deliver the goods. It comes to something when the Green Party are seen as being to the left of the big three (or in the case of the Lib Dems, not so big any more!).
Have a look at our manifesto:
www.socialist-labour
-party.org.uk
and you might get a surprise - and there will be more than enough to fill a ten telephone boxes there tonight.
Viva la revolution!

It’s probably worth going to meet Ricky Tomlinson. I thought he was brilliant as harry basset. Back to the letter writer none of the three main leaders have their finger on the pulse all three of them are career politicians who have never achieved a thing in their lives. All three
(Cameron, Milliband, Clegg) have broadly the same policies and not an ounce of principles all three parties are losing members hand over fist. As for the SLP I think in St Helens last time they got about 40 votes as I recall and they are good fun for some “fists in the air” stuff but will never get power even in uber socialist St Helens. I actually think we need a new party in Britain with the right leadership that could be UKIP as Europe will be the no 1 issue next 5 to 10 years as the EU implodes.

Has the Nation got a pulse? Has even Ed Milliband?
Apart from some political point scoring at PMQT I have yet to hear of any big policy from Labour to get us out of this mess. No big projects to kick start the economy such as a HS2 to the NW;re-nationalise the Railway system as we put more money into the private sector's pockets than we ever did with British Rail; laws not talk to stop illegal immigrants; how to block illegal loopholes for the rich;no more privatisation of Education and the NHS;--in fact can we hear just ONE commitment from Labour whenever they return to power. Its runway policy, its roads policy its energy policy its policy on Labour relations-ANY POLICY PLEASE!!

I have some symapathy with Sankey on an issue we discussed in the last general election that the current political syatem has had its day. OK for the 20th.Century but not the future. As every day passes the Animals in the government we have elected turn into the same animals which were kicked out last time just like Animal Farm. Orwell was ahead of his time? All political hacks protecting their own interests then coming on TV with words that means absolutely nothing-talking in generalities, those new Cabinet members particularly. Watch them on TV tonight and tell me what they are really going to do, very little it seems.

You are so right Bill the labour vs tory wars were for the 1930's. Its irrelevant now what matters now is how we compete in the new world order china, india, brazil and what do we do about europe and do we stick or twist with it. That is what matters now not class wars that went out with the ark. The country is in a god awful mess and it matters not how we got into this mess and whose fault it is but what do we do now? None of the two big parties have a clue. Very worrying indeed.

Sankey, not helped when the theme from those of the new cabinet trot out words such as "it is the rolling up our sleeves to get things done" Cabinet. We will see plenty of bare forearms but very little being done,- but talk.

Have we seen one spade put in the ground (remember Cameron's last slogan) for the HS2 to Birmingham and then to Manchester/Liverpool
? Such a fast connection could solve the 3rd. runway dilemma by developing Birmingham and Manchester airports. But with the Chiltern valley being wall to wall Tory MP's on slender majorities, hell will freeze over before this will happen
And Labour's response?--Silence. My party should be crawling all over this Government and be out of sight in the opinion polls. I wonder why not? Where is our promised new school at Mill Green announced nearly a year ago. Not a whisper?

Bill - Listening to Cameron and Milliband today in the commons. Name calling and point scoring like two children. Neither has any clue how to address the issues facing Britain. I am sure you and will differ considerably as to what the solution is but one thing for sure neither of those two have it, both career politicians. Why do you think they need armies of advisers and focus groups? I think things will get so bad eventually there will be some form of social revolution and new parties will be formed the problem with that is what and who will they be? We are already seeing this in Europe who is ahead of us in decline so look at Europe now to see us in 5 years.

The only way the political system be changed, as the current political set-up is too heavily entrenched into the public conscience, so no chance of any alternative party or system coming into being, is some massive social revolt akin to our Civil War of the past. It won't come with some sort of "Citizen Smith" shouting "Power to the People" or even some sort of Orwellian figure of control.

Unfortunately such social upheaval often comes with worst consequences such as a Dictator or extreme Right wing Government, which, some of us on this site might think with this current lot, we are heading there quite quickly.

Perhaps some sort of "Benighn Dictatorship" who buys power by giving "the people" what they want. Putin has this ability but unfortunately he keeps power by giving the Rich Oligarks what they want.

Sankey I haven't a clue how we change the system but the current one is certainly not working and looking at our leaders and politicians, neither do they but it is quite a comfortable way of earning a living, if you can live with some people from the Star blog-site calling you names from time to time!!???

Well, Labour are currently over 40% in the polls and UKIP are less than 10% . I don't think Miliband needs any advice from eurosceptics, the last PM to be steered into a general election by the eurosceptics was John Major in 1997 and if it were such a vote winner Cameron would be going down the same path.It may please the Mail and Express but it's a political dead end.As for 'most of us wanting out of Brussels' - most people were in favour of changing the voting system until they saw the detail , I would expect any referendum on leaving the EU to be lost as the debate unfolded. I should add, I have no strong view on Britain's EU membership either way , I can see the benefits and drawbacks.

Its the perfect way to earn a living Bill any other job you are accountable and have to perform. Unless you are in a marginal seat none of those rules apply to an MP or head of the council. The money rolls in year after year after year. Very nice I agree hard to change but I would have primaries for seats at least that would change the non accountability aspect. And PM they will never give us a vote in / out of europe they know how we would vote too many snouts in the EU trough for MP's to give that one up.
