If you thought that plague of flies was bad...
9:03am Thursday 16th August 2012 in News By Reader letter
NOW all the fuss has died down over a landfill site near Rainford, we have proposals for a different waste processing plant near the town centre, on the old Ravenhead works site.
This time it is proposed to incinerate 200,000 tonnes of rubbish every year at this plant with all the attendant problems connected to it.
For instance, it is expected to generate close to 200 HGV lorry movements along Burtonhead Road everyday... an obvious road safety hazard along such a road with a blind junction at Ravenhead Road.
Then there is the problem of noise, dust, spillage from vehicles, and increased air pollution. Air pollution not just from vehicles, but from stack emissions at the plant, which could contain toxic dioxin and furans. Also a gas is to be stored on site which is yet another risk.
Remember the plague of flies in Sutton recently, if you live on the Shires or the Stafford Road area… be prepared… this waste plant could affect you in many ways. After the landfill site, now the incinerator. St Helens is becoming the rubbish dumping ground for the region!
