Like many parents I am excited by the prospect of my child returning to school this week. What will he learn this year and how will his experiences help to shape his life in the future?

For pupils at Cowley Language College in St Helens the new school year brings the added excitement of returning to a brand new school. Built as part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, Cowley Language College seeks to transform the lives of not only pupils, but the local residents as a whole by making it a focal point for the community it serves. Cowley Language College is one of 33 BSF schools opening in September around the country and one which has a shared aim to provide young people with the very best start in life. The BSF programme is more than bricks and mortar – it is about putting young people at the heart of our efforts to improve this country’s future.
