I AM writing to say another big 'thank you' to the lady who found my handbag in the town centre and took it to the police station in College Street.
On Tuesday morning it was very warm and I stopped in Bridge Street at a bench to take off my jacket which I stowed in my shopping bag before heading off to the arcade, leaving my handbag on the bench.
It was about 15 minutes later before I realised what I'd done and it was a panic that I rushed back to the bench, which was empty. I was so upset because the bag contained my house and car keys, my credit and debit cards, my driving licence and bus pass and my mobile phone.
I hurried to the police station in College Street only to find a queue of 4 people in front of me. I got into conversation with one and told him what I had done and a lady in front of me turned around and said "is this your bag?" and it was!
What a relief! She had found it and was about to hand it in at the police station. She absolutely refused to take any money from me and all I know about her is that she lives in the bungalows near Carr Mill Dam.
When we hear so much about theft these days it is so nice to have one's faith in human nature restored.
I am so grateful to that lady for taking the trouble to walk from the town centre to the College Street police station - no short distance - to hand in my bag.
It would be nice if there were a Lost Property Office nearer to the shops so that one didn't have to spend 10 minutes walking to College Street. It might also encourage people to hand in items which they found in the Shopping Precinct.
