I FOUND the reader comment in last week’s Star about the council’s purchase of Church Square Shopping Centre a little daft. 


They haven’t ‘found’ £26m to buy it. 


It’s a business investment so they’ve borrowed money to buy it. 


And it will be paid back from rental of the shops.

It also puts the centre in the control of St Helens Council and not landlords so it can be more easily worked into regeneration plans.


It’s not like they have found cash down the back of the sofa.
