I NOTICED that St Helens Council is to shut Haresfinch Road for a week from September 18 to facilitate bridge repairs.

This is a bridge that to my knowledge has never seen a train in 40 years. So what is the reason for repairing it.

A better option would be to pull it down widen the road and get shut of a bottle neck. This would get traffic in and out of town quicker.

I guess the excuse for spending the money is that it is a direct rail link to the Pilkingtons site. If that is the case why are Pilkingtons not using it instead of the lorries that come in and out now?
