CONGRATULATIONS and thanks to Geoff Simm who put on an excellent series of slide illustrated heritage talks about Newton and Earlestown at the local library from Wednesday to Saturday last week.

Geoff has amassed an impressive collection of old pictures of the town and his knowledgeable commentaries are interspersed with the odd merry quip and amusing stories.

The small room in which it was held was packed every day and the four sessions, which stretched over six hours, kept the faithful fully engaged throughout.

It’s the sort of event that’s crying out for a bigger venue and more publicity,  as I’m sure many old Earlestonians and Newtonians would enjoy it as much as the few who saw it last week did.
