THE sentence given to Luke Woods for the manslaughter of Len Saunders was nothing to do with the judge who stated he would have given a lengthy stretch.

In my opinion it’s down to the rules laid down by Parliament, which were designed as an easy option to cut costs rather than to build more prisons and to please our European liberal masters which it did at a stroke by taking our judges out of the equation.

Therefore it is nothing to do with natural justice but a cost saving exercise, as was shutting down our Magistrates’ Court.

In fact the whole system is now geared in favour of the criminals who know that this country is a soft touch.

On top of all this our police force numbers have been slashed to the bone and the majority of crimes cannot be investigated, only a crime number issued and then it vanishes into a computer hard drive never to bother the authorities again and certainly will not appear in the crime numbers.

Of course now Lenny is just another statistic in an increasingly violent society.

I just hope his family have his case referred to have this sentence reviewed as being far too lenient and something like true justice is dispensed in this case.

Even doubling it would not be enough but I would not hold my breath.
I think Lenny’s memory deserved nothing less and I know that most decent people will agree with my sentiments.
