IN addition to the immense environmental price paid by the residents of Newton and Haydock it’s very hard to envisage the economic and growth benefits claimed in the proposed Local Plan.

The plan is one dimensional, focussing only on the logistics sector.

In addition to the lack of focus on any other industry, the real danger is creating a traffic barrier in the gateway to the borough by overburdening the road network,  resulting in a disincentive for a future range of attracted new employment opportunities in the manufacturing, technology and service industry on which transport links are critical.

Not only will the high environmental price be for nothing, we may even end up in the medium/long term with a worse position for employment than we have now.
