HAVING worked in St Helens for 25 years, I’d say the shopping centre hasn’t had any investment and has remained ‘locked in time’ the way it was.

The retail parks on the outskirts have taken the business out and are always busy.

Wigan has invested heavily in the town centre and attracts custom from outside the town, including St Helens.

However, the parking fees in Wigan are a lot more than St Helens.

The fact both towns have Liverpool and Manchester either side means they need to invest locally. I think St Helens has failed to do that.
