PEEL holdings have recently announced that the Liverpool 2 docks project has now been completed at a cost of £400 million pounds.
The average container ship scheduled to use these super docks carries an estimated 16,000 containers each 20ft long.
After being unloaded from these massive ships a large percentage of these containers will be loaded on to lorries and transported to their final destinations.
When you consider that each ship holds between 16,000 and 18,000 containers you don’t need a science degree to work out that once the docks are up and running to their full capacity a percentage of these heavy goods vehicles will then find their way along the East Lancs Road to and from the M6 and beyond.
Civil work and the upgrading of the traffic lights at Windle Island will no doubt help towards the safety and ease the flow of traffic for the time being.
But what of the future for the residents of Windle?
More traffic, more noise, more dirt, and more exhaust fumes etc, etc, etc.
H Lea, Windle
