AS a former very part-time employee of the magistrates court in St Helens it will indeed be a very sad moment for me to see our courthouse not used as a magistrates' court any more. Having said that I do believe that the Crown Court will survive.
I do agree, therefore, with most of the comments of Jo Edwards, the Chairman of Resolution Family Law Organisation.
However, the Family Court (part of the magistrates) was transferred to Liverpool many years ago which leaves the county court which, and I may be wrong, will survive.
Magistrates Courts were meant to dispense local justice. How can they when miscreants have to travel to Liverpool, Bootle, or even the Wirral (TV licence offences), as those are the only courts left in Merseyside. That is apart from crown court and the other Court in North Liverpool.
So, our youngsters will need to travel to Liverpool to face justice. That must be wrong.
