I WOULD like to extend my sincere thanks to the local community support officers who have recently imposed a zero tolerance policy on the motorists who regularly drop off and pick up outside of Newton Primary School, Newton-le-Willows.

During the schooling of my children I have observed motorists parking dangerously, stopping to let children in and out of their cars on the roundabout outside the school but for me, worst of all is watching the motorists who use the mini roundabout each morning and afternoon continually fail to use their indicators to signal their intention.

Those children who have been given some road sense as to what a car's indicators mean are left guessing, as are the parents trying to navigate them safely across.

Unfortunately, this cannot be continually policed but personally I would like to remind all motorists who visit the school that the highway code still applies there. To indicate right to go around or left to turn off the roundabout is surely preferable to the consequences of harming a child.
