IN 2013, the NHS decided to offer AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) screening service for men who have reached 65.
Men of this age are most vulnerable to what usually amounts to a deadly outcome if you are unlucky enough to encounter it. I know two people – one who survived because he was being treated for something else – when it was discovered. The other sadly died.
I recently had my 65th birthday and decided to pursue the screening.
I checked the NHS website and contacted my local surgery. To my surprise I was the first to approach them.
I contacted the screening service in Liverpool. They couldn’t have been more helpful and I will be screened at Sherdley Medical Centre.
I just want to alert people to the availability of what I consider an important service.
