I WAS sitting on the benches on Church Square and several older people were sat there too.

There was quite a large group of youngsters with skateboards, which they weren't using.

However, the girls and boys, all teenagers who must have finished their education, were screaming and throwing each other over the benches.

They were rolling around the floor fighting with each other on the floor generally making a nuisance of themselves.

They are on Church Square hanging about everyday.

I'm not a grouchy old person but I find them very intimidating and I spoke to some of the older people who said they felt the same and said since the benches have been taken away from the Hardshaw Centre there is only Church Square to sit.

My question is: why aren't the security or police doing anything to move them on? Obviously the CCTV operators can see what is going on.

PCSOs, police or security guards are a rare breed in the town centre.

Also, I have lost count of how many times I have had to dodge a skateboarder.

Some older people may not be as nimble on their feet and it is an accident waiting to happen.

There is a large area on Victoria Square where they could go and skateboard, however, I am sure that the powers of be would quickly move them on.
