THE article on the potential closure of Clock Face Community Room (Star, August 20) highlighted the issue of loneliness.
Friends of the Elderly report that five million older people are affected by loneliness and they encourage people to befriend elderly neighbours or volunteer for their telephone befriending service through their 'Be a friend' campaign.

The charity Wavelength also offers a free television or radio to those socially isolated but applications must be made through a third party such as Citizens Advice or Age UK.
