I HAVE been retired now for 13 years and as a pastime played golf sometimes, but two years ago for health reasons I had was forced to give up.

In the past on holidays I had watched people playing bridge and decided to learn the game myself and found several bridge clubs but they were for intermediate standard players not offering instruction.

I then discovered that Lester Drive Bridge Club runs beginners’ lessons in the Community Hall on Lester Drive, Eccleston every Wednesday morning 9.45am to 11.45am.

The club has been going for a long time teaching newcomers and once you’ve covered the basics you get to play with help and instruction.

There are usually two or three experienced players on hand if you get stuck.

I find the sessions really good with a friendly but competitive atmosphere and I recommend bridge to anyone who enjoys the company of other people.
