I READ with interest how council officers plan to name streets in the borough after our VC Heroes, (Nov 20th) and as commendable as this is, perhaps the “officers” should show a little more historical knowledge.
The old Newton-le-Willows Council beat them to it by a long way, naming Harvey Avenue in honour of our local hero.
It’s a great idea to honour the VC heroes of St Helens but it shows a complete lack of local knowledge and some disrespect for Norman Harvey to not know that their idea has already been used many years ago and that the people of Newton have already paid that particular tribute.
Perhaps I shouldn’t be so surprised to find that the officials in St Helens know so little about Newton-le-Willows. Can we please have something fresh new and appropriate to honour this remarkable man?
