THE story so far, remember granddad’s old car.
Remember mischief night
His car had been stolen, that was the fright
We phone to get the police involved
Hoping to get the problem solved
“We’ll put it on the register, spread it around
“We’ll inform you if and when it is found
“Usually within two or three days you’ll hear
“If it’s dumped or burned be it far or near
“If it’s been scrapped it’ll be gone for good
“That this all happens regularly must be understood.”
Now forward to Remembrance Day
Which we’ll remember now in a different way.
A registered letter duly arrives
Bringing us the shock of our lives
The car’s been held since November the first
A story unravels confirming the worst
There’s money to be made for recovery
There’s money to be paid for storage, see
There’s money to be paid to tow the car back
The shock’s enough to bring on a heart attack
Our task now is to enquire and try to see
Why the police didn’t inform us immediately
Of course we’re upset, of course we are vexed
But with luck we’ll relate what happens next
