WE ARE fortunate in Crank and the surrounding villages to enjoy a little of the remaining countryside close to St Helens.
The pavements, bridleways and public footpaths linking Rainford, Crawford, Kings Moss, Billinge and Moss Bank are enjoyed by ramblers' societies, and charity walks and school nature walks.
These are all community activities that St Helens Council should be assisting and promoting within the borough.
It seems senseless to spend council funds promoting 'Care of the Countryside', 'Responsible Dog Ownership' and an anti littering campaign threatening prosecution when the two litter bins in Crank are not emptied and left to overflow on the pavement.
If a charity walk or running event had been organised for last weekend it would be a poor advertisement for the borough and all those living within it.
If the public can take the effort to clean up after their dogs and place litter in the bins provided, surely our council can make the effort to empty them.
