IT may be vying for the title of rubbish tip 2014 from both Boundary Road and Crowther Street, but I believe Alexandra Park is pulling out all the stops to maintain its lead.

A mixture of discarded fishing line, plastic containers, bread wrappers, carrier bags and tin cans certainly assures the park of this year’s title.

The total lack of any litter bins on the eastern side of the park by Alexandra Drive, coupled with fishing by all and sundry, results in what must be an embarrassing eyesore to potential new clients to the park or existing customers.

We walk our dogs daily in the park and have recently encountered several metres of discarded fishing line, some of which has entangled both dogs. How long must we wait before a child is seriously injured by this? The park carries notices banning fishing which are totally ignored by the majority who know full well that the legislation is never enforced.

Come on park owners and clients, get your act together and make an effort to improve your own environment and give West Park something to be proud of.
