THE number of boarded-up and derelict buildings in the borough is a cause for concern.
My journey into work takes me through Parr and it is sad to pass The Engine pub – shuttered up and robbed of roofing slates. I realise the licensed trade has suffered a serious decline since the days when Saints’ legend the late Duggie Greenall was landlord of The Engine. But it seems a great shame that such an imposing building should be allowed to go to ruin.
It does not create a good impression for visitors to the borough on the main route into town from Newton-le-Willows.
Are there any plans for the pub or the site?
