WHY do some people not realise the council has a duty to implement the recycling scheme, and if they don’t meet their targets they are answerable to the Government?

Why is it that people will only recycle if there is a cash incentive?

Isn’t it their duty to mankind and the environment to recycle. It is their children and grandchildren who will benefit in years to come.

If the council announced it was opening a landfill site because St Helens residents cannot be bothered to recycle because they do not get a council tax rebate, I think it would be a case of NIMBY. So what if the collections are late sometimes?

The crews are doing their best to keep to their schedules, but as with every new initiative they have teething problems.

It is still early days, and not many things go to plan first time, so give the council a break in this massive undertaking.

I too have experienced missed collections and containers not being emptied, (because I had put the wrong item in the box), but I didn’t send a letter to the paper. Just get over it and show some co-operation.

There has been a big investment in purchasing containers, so if you’re not already using them please do so.

Recently the council announced recycled material has gone up 300 per cent.

Is that not worthy of a pat on the back for all of us who recycle, not least the council?
