100 trees felled because they are not native in Victoria Park

WHEN it was announced that a grant had been awarded for the restoration of Victoria Park, no one could have imagined that this would entail the destruction of more than 100 trees because they were not a native variety, (facts and figures given by member of Friends of Victoria Park).

No thought it seems has been given to the timing of this destruction.

Being spring all the wild life on the pond are getting ready to nest, but as the ground cover and several of the trees have been destroyed there is no where for them to go.

Is this restoration? It seems more like annihilation and wanton waste.

I'm in agreement with you jean not only than was hopping they would do better job at sorting out some of the path way's with pot holes in. e.g. the entrance from the bottom of park near the lodge. Beginning to quest how much thinking has gone in to it?

As a moderator on the Facebook site Sintelliners it has become patently obvious to me that there is a great amount of disquiet concerning the destruction of Victoria Park which appears to have taken place under the guise of improvement. The photos and comments posted on site indicate the concern felt by many members of our group especially relating to the appalling carnage perpetrated on the long established trees..It will be generations before the park is returned to the beauty that drew us there in the past. Had such destruction taken place in one of the Royal Parks in London then there would surely be a national outcry. Victoria Park is just as important the people in the town.
