Was youth brawl organised?

POLICE are investigating if violent clashes between rival gangs of youths in Haydock on Saturday evening had been pre-arranged.

Officers were called to the disturbance on playing fields in Haydock after a large group of youths, believed to be from Parr and Haydock, became involved in a brawl.

It is understood that at least one one youngster was injured and needed hospital treatment. Police investigations are continuing.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Chris Sephton, from St Helens CID, said: “It is certainly concerning for us if groups of youths are potentially arranging fights.

"And if it is going on, we will be clamping down on it.”

My daughter was witness to this attack on King George park in Haydock and found it to be a very disturbing and unprovoked attack (not brawl), a gang of aprox 30 to 40 lads from Parr for no reason set upon a group of aprox 10 lads from Haydock with what looked like a golf club.

If crime is not bad enough today we now have gangs of upto 40 kids going miles out of their way armed with bats, clubs etc with the sole intention of mindless violence.

Just for the record - my daughter gave a brief description of the attack to the police officer at the doorway of the Tesco store but as yet the police have not been back in touch to request a full and detailed statement. Good luck in your crime clamp down acting DCI Chris Sephton. Have you appealed for witnesses or do you not want this information, tough on crime.
