POLICE are hunting a suspected sex attacker after a girl under the age of 16 was allegedly assaulted in a park.
The incident happened at about 6pm on Sunday, May 25 in Thatto Heath park, close to Elm Road.
A forensic tent was put up by police on Wednesday morning after the victim made the allegation.
Officers have stressed the importance of tracing a man who was seen in the area just before the alleged attack.
He is described as white, between 20 and 30-years-old, 5ft 9ins tall, with an athletic build and a Liverpool accent.
At the time, he was wearing blue denim jeans, a navy blue hooded top, gloves and black trainers with a cat motif on the heel.
Police patrols in the area will be increased as part of the investigation.
Superintendent Peter Edge said: "I would like to reassure the public that incidents such as these are rare, but I would like to remind people to be vigilant when out and about.
"Anyone answering the description or seen acting suspiciously should be reported to the police as soon as possible."
