POLICE are hunting a man who attempted to assault a 13-year-old girl in St Helens town centre last week.

She had been walking her small terrier type dog along Westfield Street at around 8pm on Thursday, September 25, when she was approached by a man. Shortly after striking up a conversation, it is alleged that he attempted to assault her.

He is described as being around 30 years old, white with a medium build and around 5ft 7in. He was unshaven with dark scruffy hair and was wearing white trainers, dark jeans and a short dark jacket. The girl was wearing a bottle green uniform and has blonde hair.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was standing at the bus stop on Westfield Street at the time to come forward. It’s believed that two men, a woman and a child waiting for a bus may be able to help police with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the alleged attack or who may have any information is urged to contact St Helens CID on 0151 777 1565 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
