Borough set to get more alleygates
12:00pm Friday 11th July 2008 in Crime
MORE alleygates are to be installed in St Helens as the Council’s Executive approves the second phase of a three-year £1.5million project.
Between 2003 and 2007 more than 850 gates have been installed which have made a significant contribution to slashing the number of domestic burglaries.
More sites across the borough have been earmarked for around 134 new gates with a potential to increase the figure to more than 160 depending on the amount of environmental works that may be needed. The sites have been selected using a number of indicators including:
- Use of crime data to identify vulnerable locations.
- Feedback from Neighbourhood Action groups and partners working with the Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership.
- Feedback from residents and ward councillors.
