BINGO players at a club in St Helens have notched up almost £1,900 for their chosen charity this year.

Team members and customers at the Mecca club, on Kirkland Street, have been drumming up cash to support Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Fundraising events included a sponsored football match against Mecca Knotty Ash, a bicycle ride to Southport and back and in-club initiatives.

Mecca St Helens general manager, Paul Harrison, said: “Our club’s fundraising success is a credit to the team members and the hard work they’ve put in to ensuring our events run smoothly.

“From football matches to in-club activities, the team have shown lots of enthusiasm when it comes to raising money for charity. We’d also like to say a huge thank-you to all our customers who have generously supported the team’s endeavours over the year and enabled us to raise nearly £1,900.

“Every £20 we have raised will provide an hour of Marie Curie nursing care in St Helens, so it’s great to be able to make a difference at a local level.”
