THE man behind speed humps and double yellow lines in the town was guest speaker at the annual meeting of St Helens Advanced Motorists.
Head of traffic management at the council, George Houghton, explained to his audience all about the complexities of laying down speed humps, lines, imposing speed limits, making junctions safer and reducing congestion by the use of ‘smarter’ traffic lights. The mayor, Councillor Tom Hargreaves also said that he took road safety very seriously and was delighted to learn that a local group made such a significant contribution to improving driving standards.
