TWO high profile business leaders have retired from their roles on the board of a charitable organisation.
John Royle, the current chairman of The Guy Pilkington Memorial Home Ltd, which oversees Fairfield Independent Hospital, and Andrew Smith, who held the same position for six years, are well known within the local business community.
Mr Royle was involved in setting up Fairfield in 1973 and was influential in bringing fundraising to the hospital. He was appointed to the board of directors in 1999.
Over the years, Mr Royle has been a magistrate in 1984 and chairman of St Helens Magistrates Court Committee in 1995.
He was also a non-executive director for St Helens and Knowsley Trust in 1991 and a member of St Helens Rotary club, acting as president from 1990 to 1991.
Andrew Smith has been on the board for 11 years and was chairman from 2000 to 2006.
He is the company director of St Helens-based ST Group Ltd and an active member of St Helens Chamber of Commerce.
