A SQUAD of goldenhearts has chipped in with £2,500 to help the Children and Young People’s Department at Whiston Hospital.

Prescot Rotary Club raised the funds through a series of events held over the last year, including a fireworks display, carol concerts, golf days and charity collections around the local area.

Club secretary, Keith Herbert, said: “Each year, we select a good cause to support.

“This year, we chose the children’s wards at Whiston Hospital in recognition of the excellent service that they provide for children and their families in the area.

“Huge numbers of people helped to raise this money, so this donation is also a big thank you from them.”

Sally Duce, directorate manager for the Children’s and Young People’s Department, praised the Rotary Club’s selfless efforts. “We would like to thank the Prescot Rotary Club and all the people who helped them raise funds for the unit.

“This generous donation will be used to buy more fold-up beds to enable parents to stay with their children overnight.”
