Quick on the draw
5:23pm Friday 19th October 2012 in News
HOW do you draw? That is what artists from St Helens group Platform are asking as they stage a series of events in St Mary’s Market to celebrate The Big Draw during October.
On Saturday, October 20 the event area in St Mary’s Market will transform into ‘Sketch Stalls’, where artists will give you the materials and know how to create drawings big and small.
Take the 60-second portrait challenge, with artist Spencer May who will help you draw faces quickly and confidently.
Alternatively, immerse yourself in the watery colours of the sea as Angela Wilkinson shows how to use paints and inks to great effect.
The again you could have a go at treasure hunt around the market as you try to find the objects that have mysteriously been turned into drawings by artist Claire Weetman.
All of the drawing activities on offer will be suitable for families and it is free admission, so come between 11am-3pm on 20 October and unleash your creativity.
If taking part in drawing doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, then take a look at the new exhibition of drawings that are on show in the market.
Platform, in conjunction with the Coffee Stop cafe will be unveiling their exhibition ‘How I Draw’ which shows the breadth of ways that artists sketch.
From doodling with marker pen to sewing lines onto fabric, using the patterns left by grass clippings to an image captured with the lens of a camera, this exhibition will make you think about how to draw differently.
