A SUPERMARKET chain is being prosecuted for allegedly selling mouldy pizza which was unsafe and unfit for human consumption.
Charges against the Aldi store on Branchway, Haydock, were read out at St Helens Magistrates’ Court.
The chain is accused of breaching two EC food regulations by stocking the pizza on January 25.
It is also accused of breaching food labelling regulations on January 26 by selling pork pies, roast beef, scotch eggs, sausage rolls and salad after the items’ displayed use-by dates.
The case was adjourned until November 5, when Aldi is due to enter a plea in relation to the charges.
