Pride of St Helens: Halo Legal Services Champion Fundraiser Award - winner Lynn Duffy
11:00am Thursday 18th October 2012 in News
LYNN Duffy’s unswerving commitment to the HoneyRose Foundation, a charity which helps makes terminally patients’ fulfil a special wish, was named the Champion Fundraiser.
However, she was quick to dedicate the prize to the network of volunteers who ensure the St Helens town centre based charity maintains its heart-warming service.
Lynn, 58, who founded the charity after a friend died of cancer, said: “It’s amazing and so nice to be nominated and even win.
“But this is more for the HoneyRose Foundation than just for me. I may be the focal point, but without the volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to help the families as we do.
“But we always need support. Winning the lottery would be ideal,” she joked.
In recent years the charity has raised an average of £130,000 over 12 months.
Lynn admitted she was overwhelmed at winning the award: “It’s fantastic, but I’m not very good at things like this. People tell me I don’t take compliments very well.
“Not that I don’t appreciate them. Far from it, it’s great for the charity.”
Sarah Williams, of award sponsor Halo Legal Services, said: “Tonight has been an amazing experience.
“Supporting its charities is something St Helens businesses really need to do.
“Charities have a huge role to play in our society and St Helens benefits from a lot of the work they to do just to help some local people function.
“I’m delighted for Lynn and her team.”
Other nominees were Cliff Williams and Mencap Newton Gateway Group.
