'iPhone muggers' attacked pregnant woman
2:00pm Tuesday 16th October 2012 in News
Detectives this week released an e-fit of one of the muggers who attacked the pregnant victim for her iPhone.
A PREGNANT woman was knocked to the ground by two thugs who snatched her iPhone, it has emerged.
The despicable robbery happened as the 33-year-old, who was six months pregnant at the time of the attack, was walking a dog to her parents’ house.
Details of the incident were revealed for the first time this week as detectives issued an e-fit of a suspect they want to trace.
It happened close to the borough’s boundary with Wigan at Low Bank Road, near Skitters Grove, Ashton-in-Makerfield on Thursday, September 20.
At the time of the robbery, which was about 5.45pm, it was still daylight.
Police say the victim, who was pushed to the ground by the two men, was not injured but she was left shocked and upset. Doctors examined her at hospital as a precaution.
Detective Constable Neil Henry from St Helens CID, said: "This was a despicable thing to do to anyone but especially so to a woman who is noticeably pregnant.
“She has been enjoying a walk to her mum and dad's house nearby and taken the dog when these two young men have approached her, pushed her over, which is extremely reckless, and stolen her phone.
“We know they then ran off into Skitters Grove and I believe someone will have seen something suspicious.
"I would urge people to take a close look at the person in this e-fit and if you think you recognise them, do the right thing and call the police or Crimestoppers."
